New York Cosmos is the most cultural impact in history of U.S soccer, began when the greatest footballer ever in this planet arrive the club in 1975. The signing of Pelé backing by Warner Communication President Steve Ross transformed soccer across the country almost immediately, lending credibility not only to the Cosmos, but also to the NASL and soccer in general, contributed to the development of soccer across the United States, a country where it had previously been largely ignored. After Pelé signed for New York, many other European and South American stars joined NASL teams. Carlos Alberto and Franz Beckenbauer joined the club in the late 1970s. The retirement of Pele mark decline of the club and NASL. The NASL finally collapsed abruptly in late 1984, and was not replaced by a new professional soccer league until Major League Soccer's first season in 1996.
